Catherine Michaud-Leclerc is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Université Laval in Canada. She is an applied microeconomist with research interests in the economics of education and development economics. Her research focuses on education systems in the context of Pakistan, Malawi, Latin America, and Canada. The topics covered in her work include the interactions of public and private education, the use of technology as a study tool, and college students' achievement. Most of her work uses empirical methods such as reduced-form estimations and randomized controlled trials. She has published her research in the Journal of Development Economics and Economics Letters. She completed her PhD in Economics at the University of Toronto in 2021. During her PhD, she was a visiting researcher at the University of California, Los Angeles (2019) and Georgetown University (2020-2021).
In April 2020, she co-founded the Graduate students in Economics of Education Zoom seminars (GEEZ), a weekly online seminar that promoted the research of PhD students in economics of education. GEEZ ran for about two years in which nearly 50 PhD students presented their research. Dr. Michaud-Leclerc was also a member of the Canadian Women Economists Committee and the Canadian Mentoring Committee. Since 2022, she co-organizes the annual event "Femmes en Économie" which takes place in Quebec City at Université Laval. The event features the research from PhD students in gender economics and research from established scholars on gender biaises.
