Ana Paula Melo is an assistant professor at the Department of Economics at Howard University in Washington, DC.

She was born and raised in Vitória, Espírito Santo, Brazil. She earned a B.A. in Economics from the University of Espírito Santo, an MSc in Economics from the University of São Paulo, and a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Applied Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Her primary research interests are in Economics of Education, Labor, and Development Economics. Her research projects focus on the determinants of achievement, inclusion, and redistribution in education and labor markets. Active studies are primarily centered in the context of Brazilian higher education, such as college expansion, affirmative action, and centralized admissions, with a particular interest in their effects on socioeconomic and racial educational gaps.
