Mary Mathew, Nikhitha

National University of Singapore

I am a doctoral candidate at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. I am visiting Yale University as a International Fox Fellow in the academic year 2024-25. My research focuses on the intersections of education policy & social inequality in the context of developing countries. I study various aspects of this intersection-how education policies could unintentionally reinforce social inequalities as well as its potential in alleviating the same. The latter includes the role of education in redistributing opportunities as well as shaping social ideologies. My broader research agenda is to enhance policy-makers’ understanding of the need to design education policies with an intention to foster greater social equity. I hold a BA (Hons) in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, India & a Masters in Economics & Public Policy from SciencesPo, Paris. I have also worked at the International Institute for Education Planning (IIEP)-UNESCO, Paris where I conducted impact evaluations of education programmes implemented by IIEP in Western Africa. Prior to joining the PhD program, I was enrolled in a pre-doctoral research fellowship at the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.
