The first global professional association for development economists, launched in 2026. IDEA and AMIE share a commitment to widening access to the profession for junior scholars who lack institutional backing — particularly those outside OECD countries, who have historically had limited access to the conferences, networks, and publishing pathways that shape the field.

Southern Economic Association (SEA)

One of the oldest economics associations in the United States, established in 1928. SEA’s annual meeting is a leading venue for the profession, drawing thousands of economists from more than 94 nations each year, and its Southern Economic Journal — first published in 1933 — is the eighth-oldest American scholarly journal in economics.
