Devika Hazra is a Professor of Economics at California State University, Los Angeles, with over a decade of experience in higher education. She currently serves as a Faculty Fellow for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, as well as for the Center for Effective Teaching and Learning, reflecting her profound commitment to student success and institutional equity. Her research utilizes applied microeconomic and causal inference methods to study violence against women, gender inequities and other issues in development economics. Dr. Hazra has secured substantial external funding from the Haynes Foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Bank of America, and has served as a Co-PI for the Los Angeles Economic Equity Accelerator and Fellowship (LEEAF).

In recognition of her exceptional impact, she was honored with the Outstanding Professor Award in 2025 at California State University, Los Angeles, for her contributions to Research, Teaching, and Community Service. Beyond her research, she bridges her academic expertise with community advocacy as a California State Certified Violence Prevention Specialist and a Certified Sexual Abuse and Domestic Violence Counselor and Advocate. Dr. Hazra has spearheaded vital student success initiatives, leading both career readiness and financial fitness programs, including the Gateway to Employment and Financial Fitness programs. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Texas A&M University and is deeply dedicated to mentoring the next generation of economists, evidenced by her extensive history of advising graduate and undergraduate honors theses and her active role as a member and mentor for the Committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession (CSWEP)
