João Gabriel de Araujo Oliveira is a Brazilian applied macroeconomist based in Brasília, working on growth and income distribution, fiscal-climate policy, and the effects of AI on labour markets in Latin America. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Brasília and is currently a CNPq post-doctoral fellow, a Short-Term Consultant at the World Bank Group, and an Associate Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science. At the World Bank he has contributed to a Public Finance Review for Brazil and to work on AI and labour markets commissioned by the Ministry of Finance. He has published around eighteen peer-reviewed articles and co-edited a volume for Edward Elgar. Having built his career through Brazil's public universities, largely outside elite academic networks, he is committed to mentoring — a natural extension of longstanding work on accessibility and inclusion, including coordinating a university accessibility centre and working as a sign-language interpreter.
